Help Me Grow Utah is currently recruiting for the following internship opportunities:
Program Description: Help Me Grow Utah (HMGU) is a free statewide family information line designed to promote the optimal development of young children by:
• linking families to information and community resources related to child development and parenting
• providing personalized care coordination
• and creating and facilitating partnerships within the community to improve the availability and quality of services for families.
Position Description and Responsibilities: The Community Outreach Intern works with our Utah County Community Liaison and has the opportunity to assist in spreading Help Me Grow throughout the state through
outreach, collecting resources, and building partnerships.
Responsibilities Include:
1. Work closely with the ASQ Community Coordinator to plan and attend outreach events for families, service providers, and physicians.
2. Become proficient in the explanation of the Help Me Grow model.
3. Help with the gathering and organizing of resources in the community.
4. Plan and organize activity kits and volunteer work.
5. Contribute to the furthering of partnerships between Help Me Grow and community partners.
6. Help in the creation outreach plans for new avenues.
7. Along with the Help Me Grow team, use knowledge-base to provide input and direction for outreach efforts in the community.
Minimum Requirements:
● Passion to help families and children
● Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
● Event planning and community outreach skills
● Willing to take initiatives on projects
● Spanish speaking abilities preferable, but not necessary
● Great organizational skills and attention to detail
● Ability to participate in collaborative teamwork among staff, interns and other volunteers
Benefits and Compensation: This is a volunteer internship position.
Work Schedule: Must commit to a minimum of 15 hours a week. Flexible scheduling available. Position based in Provo, UT. Start date is flexible according to the start date of the school semester.

Position Description and Responsibilities: The Parent Support Intern works with our team of Parent Support Specialists and have the opportunity to contact families to help them enroll, review developmental screenings with parents, and more. If you are interested in learning what types of resources are available throughout the state, this internship may be a great fit for you.
Responsibilities Include:
- Working with families via phone, email or text
- Interpreting and giving results of child development questionnaires to parents
- Researching community and informational resources to provide the family as applicable
- Attending meetings and outreach events as they are available
- Writing blog posts about child development topics of interest to you
- Other office tasks as necessary.
Minimum Requirements:
- Applicants should be currently enrolled in or have graduated from a Child Development, Public Health, Psychology or Behavioral Science, Family Studies, or similar program
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to participate in collaborative teamwork among staff, interns and volunteers
- Willing to take initiatives on projects
- Self-starter with ability to work independently
- Proper telephone etiquette, including active listening and assessment skills

Position Description: The Social Media Intern’s efforts are focused on increasing the reach of the program throughout the state through management and improvement of social media and various marketing materials. These include, but are not limited to:
- Team with the Help Me Grow Director to increase social media outreach through the current platforms
- Help design social media images or graphics using program marketing guidelines
- Create, caption, and publish content on social media platforms
- Along with existing protocol, use knowledge-base to provide input and direction to the program’s social media
- Engage our social media audiences with Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest, and our blog
Minimum Requirements:
- Currently enrolled in or have graduated from a Marketing, Communications, English, Human Development, Early Childhood, Family Studies, Public Health or a similar program
- Experience with social media (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest)
- Proficient in English communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficient technical skills in basic computer literacy, Microsoft Office Suite, and Canva with the ability to learn new software applications and databases
- Great writing skills with the ability and willingness to edit and revise
- Great organization skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage time well and stay on top of tasks
- Willingness to take initiative on projects
Benefits and Compensation: This is an unpaid volunteer position and qualifies for school credit and internship requirements; however, you will need to check the exact requirements of your program or degree. We anticipate that by the end of your internship you will have a strong portfolio of meaningful projects.
Work Schedule and Location: This position requires a minimum of 15 hours a week and the schedule is flexible based on school schedule. This position can be remote, on-site in Provo, Utah or hybrid. This position reports directly to the Help Me Grow Utah Director.

Program Description: As an initiative of United Way of Utah County, Help Me Grow Utah is a free statewide family information helpline designed to promote optimal development during pregnancy and early childhood.
Help Me Grow Utah works closely with the Utah Integrated Developmental Screening project, Celebrate the Stages, to expand the number of families completing the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) developmental screenings through providers in the community. We work to coordinate across systems to share data on developmental screenings and provide stronger follow-up for families to support their child’s development.
Position Description: As an ASQ Community Coordinator and key part of the team for the Celebrate the Stages Developmental Screening Project, you will be engaged in the planning and implementation of a system that will change the trajectory of children and families in Utah. You will be garnering support from many sectors to educate and encourage developmental promotion and screening, linkage to services, and supporting children at a very young age in their development. You will be involved in the sharing of data that will encourage communities to support early childhood. You will be working alongside our Help Me Grow Utah team and the Project Manager from the Office of Childcare to conduct outreach to child care providers, families, physicians, and community partners; offer trainings; and educate families to advocate for their child’s developmental well-being. To support this exciting system, the ASQ Community Coordinator will be responsible for (1) collaborating on the development of a strategic plan on how best to expand and support developmental screening across the state, (2) evaluating the effectiveness of outreach activities over time, (3) building sustainable partnerships with other early childhood partners, (4) facilitating trainings and offering continued support for those using the ASQ tools, and (5) helping families support their child’s development. You will also be primarily responsible for increasing awareness of Help Me Grow Utah through community outreach in Northern Utah, including Salt Lake, Davis, Weber, Morgan, and Box Elder counties. This includes promoting Help Me Grow Utah to child care providers, healthcare providers, educators, service providers, and families, among others. You will mainly perform outreach by giving formal presentations, participating in community events, working in partnership with other agencies, overseeing networking events and family events, and directing other relevant activities. In order to ensure effective outreach, the ASQ Community Coordinator will be responsible for (1) developing a strategic plan on how best to expand Help Me Grow Utah’s reach in the area, (2) formally evaluating the effectiveness of Help Me Grow Utah’s outreach activities over time, and (3) building sustainable partnerships with other early childhood partners. Additionally, the ASQ Community Coordinator actively identifies new family-centric community resources for Help Me Grow Utah’s resource database.
Minimum Requirements:
- Proficient English and Spanish verbal and written skills highly preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, early childhood, health promotion, or related field with one year of experience
- Community outreach, child development, systems building, or nonprofit experience
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Valid Utah Driver’s License
- Access to a personal vehicle for use during work hours (mileage reimbursable)
- Willingness to travel around the state periodically to build partnerships and conduct training.
- Willingness to commute to Provo, UT for periodic meetings
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to learn new software applications and databases
The Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate will possess a passion for supporting families and promoting the healthy development of children. They will possess superior interpersonal skills and must feel comfortable approaching, interacting, and teaming with early childcare providers and the families they serve, as well as other community leaders as needed. The candidate should carry themselves with a great degree of professionalism and feel comfortable public speaking in front of both small and large audiences. Additionally, they will be a self-starter who is hard-working and able to work with the flexibility as the program progresses. Child development knowledge is highly desired.
Benefits and Compensation: United Way of Utah County is an Equal Opportunity Employer. This is a part-time hourly position with a wage starting at $21.00/hour, increasing dependent on experience and education. Benefits include holidays, sick leave and vacation days.
Work Location and Schedule: This is a remote work position of 20 hours a week. A typical schedule is Monday-Friday; however, some early mornings, evenings, and Saturdays are required for community events and meetings.
Physical Activity: In the course of performing this job, the incumbent typically spends time sitting, walking, standing, listening, speaking, writing, and operating a personal computer. Frequently, he/she will be required to drive an automobile to attend meetings or events within the community. Occasionally, he/she is expected to lift and carry office records and supplies up to 25 lbs.
