Guest Post: The Importance of Mommy Time

Moms are the hardest working people on the planet and they never get the true recognition that they deserve for everything they do. The upshot of being everything from a parent to a doctor, counselor, taxi service, bank, a teacher to name but a few roles, is that it can be very tiring.

Studies have highlighted that the average mom works a crazy 98 hours in a single week! What’s more, mommas only get to enjoy a mere 17 minutes of free time per day, on average – ouch!

You Time

With this kind of information, it’s absolutely vital that, as a parent, you, as a mom, are able to get more than a measly 17 minutes of time to yourself, and when you do, it must be so that you can step back from your duties and give yourself the chance to think purely of yourself.

This includes tending to your needs in health and well-being terms, as well as staying in touch with people your own age and not just children all the time.

You see, when you get the opportunity to re-energize yourself, you’ll feel rejuvenated, which is often very beneficial for the whole family; not just you, as it helps with improved levels of patience, energy, and passion.

Now that we know how important it is to carve out some me time, how do you go about achieving it? We’ve picked out some of the most effective ways that you can focus on you, and relax while doing so. Take a look and see how you can spend some time for yourself.

Get Writing

Writing is one of the purest and more effectual ways of getting your feelings out without having to physically do it via, laughing, screaming, crying, for example. As a parent, we reckon that you’ll have a thing or two to vent over, so air some frustrations by writing them down.

Do it the old-fashioned way and keep a journal in a book, or stay in touch with technology and set up a personal blog; that way other parents can share your experiences if you want to possibly help others by posting them up on a website or forum.

Once you’ve expressed those feelings, take a moment to notice how it makes you feel. It’s been proven to be a great way to deal with anxiety, a common problem that moms deal with on a regular basis.

Blast Those Tunes!

While you’re typing/ scribing away, why not accompany that with some of your favorite music? Playing music offers you one of the best ways to relax and unwind, and can also make you feel at ease; oh, and if that wasn’t enough, it can also help you get over feelings of tiredness.

Stick some of your favorite feel-good tunes on and sing your heart out! If you’re feeling like taking it down a notch for a bit, you can always listen to some soothing tunes that’ll help you de-stress. Get some music playing that reminds you of a holiday or favorite time in your life – just see what works for you.

Catch a Power Nap

Enjoying a handy little power nap can serve to be just what you need during a hectic day. In fact, it’s probably more beneficial than you think. Researchers have established that a twenty-minute to half an hour nap is a wonderful short-term cure for tiredness, improves alertness and mood and won’t disrupt the sleep you get at night either.

During a crazy day, you sometimes need all the energy you can muster to make it through, and experts at Sleep Advisor recommend that this could be one of the best ways to overcome what the day throws at you.

Do Some Housework

Before you throw a brick at the screen, bear with us, this is not a foul ploy to make your life worse! If you manage to get the odd small household chores out of the way when you’re not tending for everyone else’s needs it can lift a weight off of your shoulders.

Clear out a drawer, tidy the odds and ends stash, or finally bag up the clothes you wanted to give to charity, for example. Doing this will help you to feel better because clutter causes stress and when you’re stressed it makes you tired.

Practice Mindfulness or Meditation

Download a mindfulness app and just listen to the instructions. The gist is to just close your eyes, take some deep breaths, and relax as you focus on your breathing.

More and more people are turning to these types of relaxation techniques in order to give them a positive mental state in a hectic modern world, so, why not give it a try and see if you feel the same?
