Being with Help Me Grow has been one of the most rewarding experiences. I have worked with Help Me Grow for nearly 2.5 years, and I have learned so much from all of my coworkers and the parents I’ve talked to. As I reflect on all of the things I have done with regards to this job, I hope that I have helped make a difference in the lives of the parents and families that I’ve worked with. One of the mothers that I’ve worked with for over 2 years was kind enough to share her experience of Help Me Grow Utah with me, and has given me permission to share it with you. She has written it in her own words.
“Help Me Grow came along during a time of transition which was particularly difficult for me to navigate with my twins. We knew one of them did not progress in the same way as the other, but it was difficult to know exactly when this was indicative of a bigger issue and not just like any siblings that will develop at different rates.
Help Me Grow was available and supportive in so many ways. The Ages and Stages Questionnaires were not only a way for me to be able to gauge where one of my children might need additional focus, but HMG was there to provide information or resources.
In addition, it was wonderful that HMG communicated this information with my pediatrician so that conversations were easier to have and he was fully informed and onboard with what was happening. Most importantly, it was extremely helpful to have a listening ear.
Going through the process of discovering your child has special needs is emotional and heartbreaking at times. HMG (Kim specifically) was there to hear my concerns, fears, frustrations, the list goes on and on. I can’t express enough how thankful I am that Help Me Grow was there and continues to be there for me and my family.”
I am grateful for the experiences I’ve had here, and I hope that I’ve been able to make a difference. To all of the families that I’ve worked with, thank you! It has been a pleasure getting to know you, learning from you, and helping you problem solve what the best options are for your children.
